When should my child have their first dental visit?
Your child should see a dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth erupts, whichever comes first.
How often should my child visit the dentist?
Regular check-ups every six months help prevent cavities and ensure healthy oral development.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Yes, we use low-radiation digital X-rays that are safe for children and help detect hidden dental issues early.
What are dental sealants, and does my child need them?
Sealants are protective coatings applied to molars to prevent cavities. They are recommended for children at risk of tooth decay.
When should my child start orthodontic treatment?
An orthodontic evaluation around age 7 can help detect alignment issues early, even if treatment isn’t needed right away.
What is the rule of 4 in pediatric dentistry?
The “rule of 4” is a mnemonic used to track the eruption of primary (baby) teeth. According to the 7+4 guideline, a child should have their first teeth by around 7 months of age, and four months later, at roughly 11 months, they should have four teeth. This helps parents and dentists monitor normal dental development.
What tooth do most kids lose first?
Children usually lose their baby teeth in the order they appear. The first to fall out are the two lower front teeth (lower central incisors), followed by the two upper front teeth (upper central incisors), then the lateral incisors, first molars, canines, and finally the second molars.
How do you clean a 2 year old's teeth?
Use a soft-bristled baby toothbrush with a very small amount of toothpaste, roughly the size of a grain of rice. Until your child reaches 3 years old or can spit out toothpaste rather than swallowing it, avoid fluoridated toothpaste. Brush thoroughly for at least two minutes, twice a day.
